SPRING TERM 2023
Marvellous music
During our Expressive Arts lessons this term, we are really enjoying learning to play a number of instruments. We have learned a melody and a number of chords on the keyboard. We have also began learning how to play the ukulele. We are having lots of fun. Diolch, Theo!
Bird box building
Year 3 and 4 have been busy building bird boxes during a workshop this week. We had to work in pairs to create our own box following the instructions. We had to show much perseverance. Soon, in our Language, Literacy and Communication work, we will be writing our own instructions for building a bird box.
Dinky Donkeys
As a whole school values treat, each class got to visit the Dinky Donkeys! We loved grooming and stroking them. The donkeys were very calming.
Christmas Enterprise
We have been busy making many products to sell on our class stall at the Christmas Enterprise Fair. We have made 100% recyclable wrapping paper, Christmas candle holders and tree stockings. We have also designed a game of Name the Reindeer. All products are 50p or £1. We are hoping to make a profit too.
Pyjama DRAMa!
We had an excellent workshop with Pyjama Drama all about the World Cup. We had to imagine we were at World Cup match and act out our feelings at different points of the match using freeze frames. We had so much fun! Diolch, Pyjama Drama!
Diwali Celebrations
We have been learning all about the Hindu festival of Diwali with Miss Rolinson. We made our own Diva Lamps!

Summer Term 2022
Natural DISASTERS
This term we have been learning about natural disasters. Recently there has been a lot of flooding in our local area and the children wanted to find out what might be in the flood water surrounding us. They discovered flood water can contain chemicals from industry and agriculture, oil, petrol, sewage, soil, objects and rubbish. They even had a go at making their own flood water.
World Book day Fun 2022
Virtual author visit
To celebrate World Book Day, Guy Bass, a well known children’s author visited us virtually. He read us lots of funny stories and poems. We also had the opportunity to ask him questions about his books and why he decided to become an author. It was great fun!

On Monday 28th March, a pair of miniature Mediterranean donkeys came to visit us! This was organised as a treat for filling one of our values jars. We enjoyed stroking and brushing the donkeys while asking lots of questions. They were very cute!

the urdd's centenary
On the 25th of January, we will be joining in the Urdd’s biggest-ever birthday celebration and attempting to be part of two GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ titles by singing the iconic Hei Mistar Urdd song together. See what you think of our effort by clicking on the link below.
carols in the community december 2021
The children really enjoyed singing Carols in the Community. Thank you to all those who came to support them. It was wonderful to be able to spread some festive cheer around Welshpool and raise money for Save the Children.
Let’s go fly a kite!
As part of our Earth, Wind, Fire and Water theme, we have been investigating the properties of kites. Here are some pictures of us building our prototypes and testing them out. What do you think?
Layers of the earth
The children wanted to find out about how the Earth was made so we decided to make a terrarium. The children were able to identify all four layers of the Earth (the crust, the mantle, the outer core and the inner core) and were able to watch and describe what happened when water was added to the cress seeds in the soil.
REMEMBRANCE day 11.11.21
We have been learning all about Remembrance Day and why we have two minutes silence on the 11th of November at 11.00am. We all enjoyed looking at some artefacts from the First World War and loved trying the soldiers jacket and helmet on.
Forest school fun
We had great fun learning all about pumpkins. We measured the pumpkins, sorted them by size and wrote interesting facts about our own pumpkins.
Adventures in nature - Arts connection wales
We had the pleasure of working with Arts Connection Wales who ran a series of workshops with all three of our Year 3/4 class on the theme of Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. 3/4TF focussed on the theme of Earth and spent time finding out about all the different plants that could be found around us before writing a song.
Getting to know each other
At the beginning of the Autumn Term 2021, we spent a lot of time getting to know each other. One of the activities we did was to create a 'Web of Compliments'. This involved the children discussing how they felt before providing them with a ball of string and asking every child to give another child, who they may not know very well, a compliment and passing the ball of string to them. The children discussed their feelings again after and were amazed at just how much happier they felt. This showed the children the affect of just one kind word being said. Imagine the affect if there was more than just one kind word being said in a day?
Our new school leaflets
During Literacy sessions this half term, we have been planning and designing our own leaflets! We completed a first draft, our friends assessed our leaflets for us via email and then we improved our leaflets and created final versions. Check out some examples of our finished leaflets below:
Explorers!
Our topic this term is Explorers! In our Humanities sessions, we have been exploring the continents of the world and even designed our own globes! In Science, we have been exploring habitats. We had a lovely time on our trip to the Severn Farm Nature Reserve. We really enjoyed hunting for minibeasts...

We had a great time on our recent school trip to Newtown! We had a walk around Dolerw Park and along the River Severn. We also got to see the magnificent Knife Angel exhibition outside the Oriel Davies gallery. Everybody loved the train journey too!
Spring Term Topic: The World around me..........
What a ‘groovy’ way to end the term with our 1940s and 1960s party! We danced like it was the 1960s, had a fashion catwalk, played games, ate 1960s foods and danced to a 1960s disco. We had so much fun... especially in the 1960s photo booth!!
We are very lucky to have school dogs which we have recently adopted! They came to meet us today and will be helping us with our reading in the coming weeks. We can’t wait!!
We had a visit from a local Historian Colin. He spoke about the 1940s and the 1960s in Welshpool and the surrounding areas. He had lots of photographs to show us including then and now pictures. We had lots of questions too! A big thank you from 3/4B Colin.
We had an excellent time on our trip to the Museum of Liverpool! We learnt lots about the 1960s and took part in our own 60s fashion catwalk!
Welcome back! We hope you enjoyed your Summer Holidays, it has been really nice hearing what the children have been up to over the last six weeks.
We have an exciting term ahead of us where we will be stepping
'Back in the Day' to the 1940s and the 1960s. Watch this space........
